Helping organizations excel at change, grapple with hard questions, and make expensive decisions about design, communications, and emerging technology

Hire me to help navigate your business into the future

The majority of my clients tend to suffer from the same issues— a blurry value proposition, disjointed processes that make it hard for users to follow, and insufficient organization of the overall experience. Luckily, these things are easy to fix and the results are immediate and lasting.

My work is motivated by a strong desire to show people how great their ideas are, to reinforce that they can and will succeed, and to make that faith contagious. I care about the people I’m working with the same way or more than I do the product they’re creating. How we treat people matters.

My Background

I have been working as a consultant, researcher, and product designer for the last 16 years. I sharpened my skills in the consulting world at McKinsey & Co, later in the emerging tech space, and for a wide variety of clients around the world in both the private and public realms. I’m known for how well and how quickly I can get into the details without losing sight of the big picture by looking beyond the numbers on the page. My background in design supports the exploration of risky unknowns and answers it with a way forward. I see my work as a lighthouse along the uncharted path of innovation and my services build up the resilience of people and products.

Teaching Product Design Research around the world

I was hired by McKinsey in 2011 to work in digital transformation. It was a dream job with an incredible opportunity to learn from the top experts. It wasn't long before I cozied up to the designers and learned methods that helped me earn multiple promotions and big opportunities. In 2017, I was selected to co-lead Design Research training for consultants globally. It was a life changing education on the limitless potential of design and all the incredible ways it was being used to change the world.

Creating McKinsey Cares to invest in local communities

I started McK Cares with a small group of colleagues to remind ourselves that there is more to life than powerpoint decks and Delta miles. Over the years, we built deep relationships with each other, with our neighbors, and the city itself.

I'm proud of the work we did and the people we served. I felt at home in NYC and I was glad to be of service to a variety of awesome causes.

Cultivating belonging through soccer in NYC

By 2017 I wanted to switch things up in my service to the community. I joined South Bronx United as a girls soccer coach for middle schoolers. The mission of the club is to help immigrant kids have an immediate sense of belonging once they land in NYC. The club is so much more than sport; we also helped our families with the legal system, academics, and other important services like literacy and nutrition. As a former player, I was finally paying forward what was once invested in me.

Innovating with the biggest companies in the world

After McKinsey, I took what I learned about the business of design and what I learned about the craft of design, and I developed my own brand of leadership for the cognitive experience design team at an emerging tech company. I’m all about psychological safety-- creating a way for my team to be imaginative, celebrating risks, and the discipline of endurance. This paid off as my team earned the highest performance ratings in 2019.

A totally new direction— starting my own studio

By 2020, I had been taking on freelance projects for over a decade but once the pandemic hit, the need for smart people to help organizations figure out how to navigate an ocean of change absolutely exploded. I started Bold Type and I thought it was going to be what I had done before but on my own terms. 5 years later, the studio offers traditional design services, emerging tech consulting, and all sorts of other fun stuff.

Working on AIGA, World Design Capital, Unplugged

2024 brought the World Design Capital to my hometown, San Diego and Tijuana. The year was full of events, experiences, and celebrations honoring the accomplishments of designers in the region going back decades. I helped produce the International Design Celebration for the AIGA San Diego Tijuana chapter. It was the perfect homecoming to get in touch with the roots of design and become inspired for the future. I took that momentum and co-founded Unplugged in 2025, an initiative that centers mutual experience as a way to build professional relationships.
